One Dance

I would be the first to admit that I have two left feet
I never have been one to want to take to a dance floor
Nothing beyond an ironic attempt or at a wedding after too many drinks
Or perhaps that time doing the time warp but that seems obligatory

But in my dreams, I can see you standing on the dance floor
Looking so beautiful as you gesture me to come to you
That smile of yours is so infectious that even my reluctance fades away
Each step brings me closer and closer to you and I cannot help but smile

The sound of the music begins and I can hear our song play through the room
Our bodies pressed together as I heard the music and the words of the song
I feel my heart beat quicker within my chest as you lay your head on my shoulder
The dream ends once again and I wake to the thought of that one dance.
