Love's Caress

Like a fleeting moment, it seems to come and then go
With all the good it made me feel, that is taken and destroyed
Made myself believe that it was done and I should be happy
Even just that presence was enough to lift me and make me feel

But perhaps it is my fault for fooling myself into believing someone else
Perhaps I should have learned from all those failed steps and let go
But for reasons I still fail to understand I thought there was something else
The Truth coming out and shattering any dreams that I was a fool to believe

Now I have found my way back to the start once again
Lost in my head as I try to make sense of why I thought I deserved better
No such thing exists for me and I can only hope that one day I will dream no more
Love's caress has come and gone once again and I can only sit and wave goodbye
