Seeking Shelter

I stand in the pouring rain as the heavens above turn into hell for me below
a crash of thunder as the sky is lit up by the lightning that makes the night come alive
Lost and looking around for something that I could call my own
A place that would keep me safe and warm and not be lost in this storm

The sky comes to life once more with another crack of lighting that opens my eyes
In the distance, I see the mountains and it is as if they are calling out to me
So far away but inside I know it is where I wanted and I need to be
Such a long journey that would test even the strongest among us

Take that first step towards what spurs me on and knowing that is where I need to be
What has gone before seems like the sound of thunder in the distance behind me
The rain continues to press down on me and I stumble as I take another step
But inside I know that at the end of the journey is the place I am seeking shelter
