Jaded Heart

So many times we came together only to be forced apart again
The hurt we both carry inside of our Hearts makes us shield ourselves
Those insecurities always whispering at the edge of our senses as we listen
That fight or flight sensation that comes with it and we tense at the thought

The walls that we have both built to keep out who we think would hurt us
A life of loneliness better than a moment of joy followed by the hollow pain of regret
Find that moment inside of ourselves to take a risk and turn to meet each other
Only to have those fears and hurt rise inside of us and our guard forms again

Can we even remember a time when we were not this way?
Was there a time when we could just let go and let the happiness in?
Those days seem to slip further and further away when I see how we have become.
But somehow I still believe this Jaded Heart can be healed by you.
