Fair Warning

The words you tell me seem like something closer to the end
Withdrawn from me like the night has come, even as you came on strong
Feeling something amazing happening, when I never expected to see you again
Your message coming from nowhere and bringing me back from the edge

But that seems like so long ago now, even if very little time has turned
As much to blame for the place we have come to and not knowing what to do
Words back and forth but it seems like it is nothing true
The feelings turn darker with each new day and I know I have no right to complain

I have been given fair warning and just cannot find the path back
My moment of real joy now coming down to earth and ending just like that
Hanging on and hoping that something will change even if I do not feel it can
Memories of the past are something to cling to and try to keep that hope alive
