Stranger (Looking back at me)

Stranger

Looking deep into the reflection in the mirror
Those eyes lost and mourning before me
I feel the twitch of my cheek as it reacts to what I see
Even though recognised I can hardly believe

A sudden feeling of tiredness fills me and I rub my eyes
But it is more than just a lack of energy, it is as if my will had been drained
I know that it has not always been this way, but how many times
Can you be knocked down before you have nothing left to give?

My eyes are transfixed on the reflection in the mirror as I struggle to see
Struggling to remember when or if there ever was more?
A pale shadow of what once was as now I look upon and see
All that remains is a stranger staring back at me
