What would you consider a great compliment in regard to your writing?

Would it be a simple thanks? Emotional response? Publishing it? Inquiring minds need to know!
Coletracer · M
In my writing, I have found that honest reviews are the best. Family and friends will usually tell you what they think you want to hear and are doing it out of kindness ., but that honest review from a stranger that has read your work will always be the best compliment whether it is a good or a bad review.Good reviews will make you smile and that occasional bad one will help you improve... unless it's some troll being a jerk.

@Coletracer Hi hope you are doing well. Its really hot here. 106

@TexChik Doing well, thank you. Tomorrow we are expecting a cold wave coming in at 92

@Coletracer That would be nice. Three weeks ago it flooded in this area, now the peach trees are loaded and sagging to the ground and the grass is 4 ft high. I have been mowing ( A/C cabin of course) for the past 3 days

Pretty much if they can say something specific or detailed about what exactly they liked about something I wrote instead of just saying it was good. I’d rather know why it was good.
TexChik · F
Probably I would be fine with them just not calling the police . 🤭😂
Jlhzfromep · M
@TexChik that exact thought has kept me from doing a couple research ideas
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@TexChik Always a good start but given todays world its a true reality 🙄
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
I became sidetracked by your use of "in regards to" instead of "in regard to" or simply "regarding".

Maybe just a typo.

Anyway, I guess it depends on the context. For something simple like a ten word story on SW, just a positive reaction emoji is pleasant enough.

For something more complex, like a number of paragraphs explaining something not easy to convey in less than that, good feedback for me would be evidence that what I'd written had been understood and found helpful, based on a longer response or feedback to it.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@PhilDeep Well thank you for the correction. I didn't even notice it to be honest.

I have to agree that context is important and you raise some very valid points. Thank you for your input!
I think your writing is beautiful. Quite publishable too. For some just saying thank you may just be simple words but it's a lot for them
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@Bexsy Maybe publish it and split the profits! :D
Pfuzylogic · M
I have written some poetry and prose here and have enjoyed that others have responded and commented on some of the metaphors I have used.
I do have a 125k Novel/story I have written but stalled on in its 2nd edit.
It is a science fiction/horror/fantasy story.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@Pfuzylogic Well that is bad ass.....I never got anything published but I also never tried lol.

@Silentpleasure
The TV term was added so that they could include a television illustration on the bottom of my poem by another elementary student.
The first compromise of my art! 😁
I have never felt the thrills I have had writing my last Novel but something essential is missing.
I don’t feel connected.
tarrant930 · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic have you seen www.parapraxis.site ? Hopefully I'm being helpful in telling you about it. You seem to be interested in having your work published one way or another.
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
Depends on where. If it's SW, having people I like give reasoned feedback on it. At work, not having people complain or nitpick it.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@ineedadrink So not really compliment it but rather critique it or be able to accept it without asking for things to be corrected or changed?
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
@Silentpleasure Yeah, I guess. But of course there is a lift from someone saying they were moved or liked it, too.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@ineedadrink Yeah its always nice to hear someone enjoyed your work!
Degbeme · 70-79, M
This is something that has never crossed my mind only because I`ve never been very word worldly enough to write anything.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@Degbeme That was perfect Deg! Thank you 🤗
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@Silentpleasure No, thank you. 🤗
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
The fact it moves her to action. That's an accomplishment.
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
@Silentpleasure if my words excite her. Move her body, heart, soul.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@Applepiedom The power of words!
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
@Silentpleasure yes exactly. The fact that my words caused, fill in blank, action or feeling
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
Published work is a nice compliment. But not something I "need" per se.
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Silentpleasure I have my poetry published in a book but other than I share my work online and with family and friends and that's really all I need.

If I'm told that it made them literally, come to tears.

When someone lets you know they enjoyed reading it and then ask for more
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@Jlhzfromep That is a really good compliment!

The greatest one I got was when someone narrated volume 1 of my story
in10RjFox · M
When someone really reads my book and leaves a honest review.

Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@dale74 I take it you mean hand written?

Casheyane · 31-35, F
When readers tell me it's their nth read and they feel the same thing they did or more when they first read it :)
When my story becomes like a home my readers can go back to when they are in need of something.
People usually thank me. If they say that my posting struck a chord with them or it effected them in some way or they explain how and why, then I am moved deeply.
11knaves11 · 41-45, M
Just my handwriting in general because when I get caught up it looks like boiled noodles, look like squiggles 😭
fun4us2b · M
I like what you said....
Silentpleasure · 31-35, F
@fun4us2b Awwww thanks :D
