Chasing Shadows

The light fades as the darkness comes fills the room once again
The shadows on the walls around me are like distant memories or dreams
Perceptible from the corner of my eyes like fading moments going away
If I take a second I can reach back in time and find something inside

Even the briefest of memories that some strength can be taken from
The light continues to fade and the shadows grow stronger as I cling to them
if I stop then I can hear the whispers of words shared in the past
Chasing those shadows while some light remains inside

One day the darkness will win completely and the things I had will be gone
Day after day it becomes more so and inside I feel it is the end game
The fight is something I had but is now gone as my worth becomes true
Chasing shadows until they are gone and it no longer means anything
