Stage Fright

Feelings I thought I had buried deep enough to protect myself
Words that cut so deep that I felt I had to do this or step over the edge
Even then the thoughts would slip through and I almost gave in to them
But no matter the distance or time it made no difference to how I felt

Now I stand before the audience of my life and the feelings stir once again
Finding it so easy to slip back into the things that made me happy once before
Words are exchanged back and forth and feelings that slumbered begin to awaken
But as those words that cut so deep as walls were placed for safety

Sometimes sorry is just the beginning of the healing no matter how heartfelt
Sometimes something as simple as being the friends we grew from
The audience awaits me as I stand in the wings of this stage of my life
The feelings and fears I feel inside are the stage fright I must learn to fight.
