On the edge

Sitting here looking down at the world below me
It all seems so small to my tired eyes as I do
Legs dangling down into the void beneath
Such a long way down but a short distance to reach

Thoughts of better times as I feel the heat of the sun on me
The smooth surface of the stone beneath my hands
A sense of calmness as I think of times gone by
Eyes closed to block out the world and see life gone by

On the edge, I am waiting to see the world turn
On the edge, I know what is before me and behind
On the edge, I could so easily say goodbye
