Misery's Friend

it is said misery loves company, if this is true then I must misery's friend
A silent form that slips from the light and into the shadows when you are alone
Rests within the dark thoughts inside my head as the quiet becomes too much
Whispering things to add fuel to the feelings that I carry inside of me

Looking from behind me and so close that I could reach out and touch it
When it all becomes too much then that friendship is embraced
And that whispered voice helps to take what you feel and amplify it
No matter how you try and silence it, it does not matte

Deeper and deeper I sink into the despair that is offered as a release
Thoughts of good times give way to the failures and losses I could not control
Fight as I may, I know that in the end that it is the way forward and beyond the pain
Misery truly does love company when it is your friend to the end
