Darkness (Waking)

Darkness

I can feel the touch of winter against my skin as I awaken in the darkness
I feel the comforting touch of the pillow as my head rests upon it and
My eyes struggle to find anything other than the blackness that surrounds me
I do not know why I have woken, but I know something feels as if it is missing

Like trying to piece together a puzzle that sits before you
My mind takes my jumble of thoughts and feelings and fights to make sense
Eyes close slowly as they give up against the struggle to see
I am awake now and know that I am missing something

With a slow deliberate movement, my body turns over and I am now on my side
Still, I am robbed of my sight eyes open or not, but something makes me reach out
it is then I feel my pulse quicken as I touch your hip as you lay beside me sleeping
The darkness means nothing when I know you are there and I can find you.
