Only the Lonely

Like the light that struggles against the coming darkness
Happiness is so often lost in the shadows that engulf us
The feelings of being lost and without hope
Those intangible feelings that burn deep inside of us

Like watching the last flickers of light from the day's end
Wanting to hold onto that and keep the night from falling
The darkness that covers you and brings the feelings once again
Life just seems empty and any happiness seems out of reach

Once more the day has come and gone and now the light fades again
The coming shroud of night and the awakening inside again
Slipped from your grasp and your wonder if it will ever be real again
Only the lonely know and they are not sharing.
