Truth

The truth will often show its ugly self when you least expect it
Like a snake striking from the tall grass, it strikes when you least expect it
The truth cutting deeper and far sharper than any knife
What you thought kept you safe is now stripped away

Laid bare before someone only to learn that your words are meaningless
Learning that your innermost thoughts are nothing more than a repeated joke
Eyes now wide open as it seems nothing said or done meant a thing
All those inner feelings of fear and regret are as meaningless as the tears they get

The emptiness inside that I thought could be filled but never will
Just that feeling inside that grows as you let the hurt grow
The things that you thought meant something as you tried to help
Now lost to the passage of time and the truth you have learned.
