Search for peace (Seven)

Search for peace

She paused for a moment as if letting the question rattle around her brain as she looked across the table at him and then let her eyes drift downwards to the table where the last of breakfast had been before.

"Hell, No, Not my scene. I am sure I could it, but no way"

She offered in return she almost seemed proud of her words and the defiance they were delivered with came out way stronger than he had expected it to be, .he knew he did not know her, but bullies were hard to say no to.

"Good, I am sure you are better than that"

He said in response and she shot him an angry look, her face contorting for a moment as if she had smelled a foul odour and was reacting to it, he realised with horror that perhaps that was the right choice of words to use and started to formulate an apology in his head.

She suddenly laughed at the look that had formed on his face and he realised that he did not need to do so and she was messing with him, well that or she had the weirdest way of showing offence he had ever seen.

"So what are you going to do? he does not strike me as someone who is going to take no for an answer"

He asked and leaned closer as he pressed his stomach against the edge of the table and placed both of his hands against it.

"I can disappear, it's not like I have a lot tying me to this place"

She said back to him, the words not seeming to have the same level of conviction as her previous statement and he suddenly wanted to ask her so much more and had to take a moment to stop himself from doing so.

"Yeah, that could work"

He offered back to her and had to look down at the table for a moment before he looked back at her across the gap between them, he hated bullies and he had dealt with enough in his life, but what was the solution otherwise?

"Good then looks like this breakfast was the last meal for the condemned woman"

She shot back at him and he could not help but notice the sparkle in her eyes and the smile that seemed to light up her face as she seemed to be once again amused by her own words.

"Well, if I knew it was going to be that bad, I would have offered to buy you dinner"

His response came quickly and he could help but return her smile, his words were meant to match her levity, but deep down he would have honoured that statement if he could.

"Oh, is that so?"

She said and he watched as her lips closed tighter and twisted slightly as she waited for him to answer her.

"Absolutely, last night was as exciting as I have had it for a while"

his response and this again elicited a laugh from her

"You don't get out much then?"

Her words now teasing him and he felt like he had walked right into that trap, but did not feel like he had to defend himself at all

"Not quite what I meant, but sure"

he offered and shook his head slightly not quite sure how else to respond as he knew she seemed to have the upper hand in this verbal sparring action.

"Well, I would love you to take me to dinner, but this Princess has nothing to wear to the ball"

She said and gestured to the dishevelled dirt-stained clothes she wore, the words trying to take the sting out of the moment, but he could see she felt something akin to shame about her situation.

"That is easily fixed, well depending on where you want to go? could pick you something up to wear and you could use the shower at my place?"

She lifted her head and the smile slowly crept back onto her face she bit down on her bottom lip before speaking again.

"Slow down, we just met, you asking me to move in?"

He let the question wash over him for a moment and was not entirely sure how to answer that, of course, he figured she was joking but he had once again walked right into that one.

"Ah, you got me"

He said as he laughed and raised his hand to point a single finger at her, this made her laugh once more and he felt like he had handled the situation a little better than he felt was initially tactically possible.

"I did, huh? But if I have a choice, I have been dying to check out that Medieval Times place, it looks really kitschy, but in a fun way"
"I have never been, but I think I recall it from that Jim Carrey movie, I think?"

He said already taking out his phone and pressing the screen to unlock it and fighting his way through the series of options until he found the internet browser and began to try to work out what he needed to do next.

She sat silently as he scanned over the screen slowly and found out the basic information he needed then pressed the contact number on the screen and it began to ring.

"Good morning, Medieval times, Sharon speaking, how may I help you"
