Father Figure

Father Figure

I have never quite understood what a father figure was
I have seen the textbook answer and can perhaps relate on that level
But as for having one, I do not see that something I ever had

Did I lose out because of this?
I do not believe so, some people would say you have.
But with what I had with my mother, she taught me so much

Perhaps the lack of a father figure made me bond with friends stronger?
Perhaps because of it, something was lacking.
I have never yearned for my father, that bridge burned long ago

Time will tell on these things, as it does on most things
I have had and lost love and once again feel as if I have found it again
So, I do not give thanks to a father figure nor do I wish to take away from others

As I have been shown recently, the future is mine to reach out for
The future is mine to grasp and shape into something better for me
The mountain in the distance and a constant calling to me
