Emily Bronte anticipated SW

I am reading "Wuthering Heights" for the first time.

The narrator, Mr. Lockwood, makes the following observation:

Perceiving myself in a blunder, I attempted to correct it. I might have seen there was too great a disparity between the ages of the parties to make it likely that they were man and wife. One was about forty: a period of mental vigour at which men seldom cherish the delusion of being married for love by girls: that dream is reserved for the solace of our declining years. The other did not look seventeen.

I read it to see why it lasted, but I struggled to get through it. Jane Eyre is one of my favorites though. Makes me think they must have been an interesting family to know. I have to add in the Tenant of Wildfell Hall yet to see where she lands. 😄

First, i will say, as fond and respectful of you as I am, under no circumstance will I agree to manage you. The very concept is daunting.

I have read Wuthering Heights a number of times through the years, but I don’t recall that passage. I’m not doubting it’s there.

I do recommend The Eagles’ song “Lyin’ Eyes” as support, though.
