No conclusions

‘Stupidity consists in wanting to reach conclusions. We are a thread, and we want to know the whole cloth … What mind worthy of the name, beginning with Homer, ever reached a conclusion? Let’s accept the picture. That’s how things are. So be it …’

(Gustave Flaubert)

Nice metaphor that can be interpreted in many ways.. We are evolving creatures who need not be what we were born as .. we start as thread become a cloth, develop to a robe and go on ..

Conclusions are like bricks or building blocks.. Nothing wrong in reaching conclusions but stupidity is to settle with it for life.

@in10RjFox I understand "conclusions" as finalities, presuming closure. We are in my view more a constant becoming than a creature/self that is slowly creating a finished product. Reality for me is a constant advance into novelty that in a sense is always remaking the past. The journey is home.

In my own experience I cannot really look back and see ideas and conclusions as the building blocks of what I am now. There have been far too many surprises, evidence of grace, of finding myself where I am more in spite of what I have thought I have understood than because of such understandings.

Where am I? Well, as Neddy Seagoon once said when asked what he was doing in the coal cellar:- "Well, everybody gotta be somewhere!"

(Well, I think it was Neddy Seagoon, but maybe experts on the Goons know otherwise.....😀 )

@SW-User past is just memory, but made to haunt us through books and manuscripts. Where we are now has no relevance to where we can get or just get to, in future.

😀😀. but I would have asked.. who are you to ask me that and why are you here in the first place?

@in10RjFox Ah ha! Yes, good question!

As I know it, the past (memory) is always open to fresh interpretations as future Reality unfolds. I think we can get stuck anywhere. But yes, some incidents can haunt us in various ways.

But I do have the faith that all things work together for the Good. I need that.

Thank you.

@SW-User Best way to answer a question is the rebound of the question .. we normally succumb to answer the question, without analyzing who is asking and for what purpose and what is the other going to do with the reply .. So the best way to perplex someone trying to act superior is to flash the question back to the person.
