That was a GREAT dinner!!!

Okay, so I've completed a portion of the training at my new job and we all went out to dinner tonight.

You know the kind of dinner right? Everyone at the table knows that none of us are paying for dinner and only one person knows exactly how much we're allowed to spend and he slowly gets more and more nervous as the evening progresses. 🤣🤣🤣

Appetizers went with the servers suggestions because we were all too busy talking about the week to look at the menu.

Appetizers
"Angry Shrimp"
Two plates ordered. Spicy hot but very nicely done and balanced. I liked.

"Tuna Tartare"
I'm not generally a fan of tartares but I did try a little. It was okay.

"American Wagyu Carpaccio"
What can I say... Manna from heaven!

This was a steak house, but really high end. If you're thinking Capital Grille or Morton's, then you're not thinking high enough. A filet was $75, the bone-in ribeye was $92. They even offered this like cave man thing that came from the kitchen on a hook, was seared at the table, then cut and served. It was $260. No, we didn't get that.

I chose the filet. Yes, I'm a cheap date.

Mains
"Truffle Mac 'n Cheese"
The sides were all family style for the table. This one was ... amazing ... yes, I know I over use that word, but this time I really mean it.

"Sara's Plate"
As I said, I ordered the filet, medium rare (as the chef suggested). The mashed potatoes were from another of the family style sides. I had those and some of the truffle mac 'n cheese and I also had some asparagus.

Yes, we ordered dessert as well but I didn't get pics. I shared a "skillet chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream. I think I had two bites.

Right now I'm so full I'm gonna need to run two marathons tomorrow!

That's what I did tonight. What did you do?

Yeah. It’s crazy when the price gets that high. The do fancy shit on the plates with the drizzle that apparently makes it worth more. I feel like when you get at $100 a plate or more… you’re paying for the name not the food. At a certain point, you can’t buy a higher quality food. I had a similar experience with a friend of my Mum’s and was at a restaurant where there were no prices on the menu (like who the fuck doesn’t put prices on the menu,) and I could tell everything was super expensive. I was like way out of my element and tried to ask her what I should order (because I kinda froze,) and she said whatever I want… her treat. I also had filet mignon with some fried portobello mushrooms and asparagus tips. It was really pretty looking and honestly we just had our plates, so I was still a little bit hungry afterwards but I know my plate cost more than I made in a whole shoot, so I was good. I just felt so uncomfortable because I don’t even know how to eat in a place like that. They have multiple forks and spoons and I just wanted to go home. I also don’t like people watching me eat, so there’s that.

@JustGoneNow Yeah, it does get crazy for sure. As for the food having some kind of ceiling on quality... I will say that my filet mignon this evening was a flavor explosion on each forkful that I've never experienced in my life before. So was this the best there is? Idk, there were many much more expensive options on the menu.

Cooking, just like your world of music, is filled with artists always trying to find new and unique ways to improve their craft. And so the art of cooking advanced. And the people say the top, just like in music, can charge obscene amounts for their time and output. 🤷‍♀️
@sarabee1995 fair. there is something to be said for preparation.
@sarabee1995 and mine was also delicious. I really love mushrooms and these were divine too.

@JustGoneNow Preparation and food quality. There's a whole global supply chain of very high quality ingredients and a whole philosophy regarding how to source quality local ingredients.

This restaurant advertised on their menu where their beef came from. It was some kind of known beef farm that was famous for the quality of it's beef. 🙂
@sarabee1995 I have no idea about the restaurant I had went to. I was very young, it was many years ago, and I was too nervous to notice many details. lol
