I Just Want To Dance

I've been dancing ever since I was just a tiny tot.
I remember the days when my mom would scoop me up and toss me up on the kitchen table.
The Beatles or some disco would be jammin out the speakers of the Magnavox as the record was spinning round and round.
She'd take my hands and we would dance.
She would be steppin and spinnin past all the chairs and I'd be flowing along with her.
My very first dance floor was my own little stage, and I used every inch of it, and she never let me fall off or step out of those edges.

Then there were the grade school dances where everyone just stood along the walls staring at each other.
There at the Catholic school the girls were on one side and the boys were on the other.
The girls with their pointing and giggling, and us 4th grade cool guys all laid back and so confident that none of us could bring ourselves to ask any of those pigtailed girls to dance.
That is until the 3rd dance of that year.

I never did ask anybody to dance with me that night, but I'm pretty sure I danced with half the girls in the entire grade and almost all at once.
I had told my mom how lame the dances were and she kinda told me and asked me, " Ya know Robert..., maybe everyone is just waiting for you to dance?"

"But, Ma..., How I'm supposed to dance if ain't nobody dancing."

She kissed my forehead and said " Ya just start dancing. It's that simple."

I was thrown out of that dance before it ended by Sister Agnes....
Hahahaha
In hindsight, maybe trying to funk Sister Agnes up was a bad idea?
But what was I gonna do?
I had to get down...

My mom took care of that problem for me too....
