A little life philosophy for you all...

[sep][sep][sep]

[big]Most People Are Good[/big]

I know it doesn't seem like it sometimes, but its true. And I'm not someone who denies the existence of evil in the world. I've seen evil and evil people, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Most people, whether liberal or conservative, whether black or white, gay or straight, Christian Muslim or atheist, or part of any other group, most people are good, decent people just trying to make it through another day.

So in your day-to-day interactions, just start with the premise that the person in front of you has good intentions. They may think or look or believe differently than you, but assume good intent and go from there.

[big]Stay Humble and Kind[/big]

This is a tough one for some of us. But in all things and in all ways, stay humble and kind. Don't steal, don't cheat, and don't lie. Go ahead and feel that internal pride when you accomplish something, but stay humble and kind.

Hold the door, say please and thank you and, when necessary, I'm sorry.

[big]Stand By You[/big]

Look out for those around you. Take the hands of those in need and hold them in yours. When you see someone with broken wings, open up yours and lend them out. Our greatest purpose in life is to help those around us.

[big]Most Girls[/big]

Most girls are smart and strong and beautiful. Be like most girls. Whether you like your tiny dresses or like to keep your physique private ... just stand proud and be smart and strong and beautiful. No two of us are the same, but we are each unstoppable.

[big]This One's For The Girls[/big]

If you've ever had a broken heart or wished upon a shooting star, you are beautiful just the way you are. We are all the same inside, from one to ninety-nine. Let's start looking out for each other, m'kay?

[big]We Shall Be Free[/big]

There's Faith, Hope, and Love ... the greatest of these is Love. Only when the last person has died for just words that they said, can we all be free. Only when the last child cries for a crust of bread can we all be free. When we are all free to love who we choose and when we can all worship from our own kind of pews, only then can we be truly free.

And finally ...

[big]Born Free[/big]

Remember that however you leave this world, you were born free. If any government, society, company, group, or person tries to hold you down, remember that your were born free.

These are my thoughts today, expressed in music, on this 16th day of January 2023. Here in the USA we are celebrating a federal holiday today, Martin Luther King Day. My dad's company for the first time has added this day to their list of observed holidays and asked all employees to take the day and use it in service to others in honor of Martin Luther King. I think that's cool.

But this post is not about MLK. It just happens to be MLK Day here. This post is about how we see and treat others. I think the world is in desperate need of a little more kindness, humility, and service to others. These are just my thoughts today. What are yours?

I thought it was a Federal Holiday so how come your Dad's company is celebrating it for the first time?

Great Post 馃

@KiwiBird Because federal holidays (sometimes called "bank holidays" although I'm not sure why) are not always observed by private companies or even some states. The only thing you can count on is no banking and no mail.

And thanks!

@sarabee1995 Bank holiday is a very English thing because the banks are shut. If you ask them what a particular Bank Holiday is for....often they don't even know what they are celebrating.

Federal public holidays in both NZ and Australia are non negotiable. Obviously essential services run. Yeah I was aware some of your States don't observe MLK day like Arizona- weird.
sarabee199526-30, F
@KiwiBird Yup. The federal government has (intentionally) very limited powers within the states. Each state retains a lot of sovereignty from the pre-constitution days.
MethDozerM
@KiwiBird Theu call them bank holidays because mostly only banks and government employees get them off.
There aren't any holidays that a private employer is mandated to give you of here.

Some of us like me, who work in the private sector get a floating holiday for Federal holidays like MLK. Which means we just get an 8 hour workday credit we can take whenever we want.
KiwiBird36-40, F
@MethDozer That's cool getting an eight hour credit to use when you want...with your employer's blessing I assume. However It does take away the meaning of why the holiday was there in the first place. The public holidays down-under all go by their actual name so at least we know why we are getting the time off. Hours are not usually traded. If you have to work on a public holiday you get holiday pay penalty rates often double time.
MethDozerM
@KiwiBird I get double time if I work most other observed holidays, but no employer is required to observe holidays. Paid holidays off and holiday pay is a work benefit. No employers is mandated by law to give them to you.
