Are you a Brit?

If so, can you help me pick a first name for a female (late 30's or early 40's) character in a work of fiction I'm writing? The name needs to fit a rather spunky, intelligent, adventurous, somewhat fearless by nature type who will be one of the two main characters in my book. She will be, more or less, a co-hero with the other main character, a male American. All suggestions considered.

Is she posh?!

@lostinspice Maybe, if I was sure exactly what "posh" is 😁. Can you provide a short definition. I don't necessarily trust Google.

Oh well, i just thought if she was a JOanna Lumley or Honour Blackman style of heroine she would have a different name to a streetwise one from the meanest streets of Leeds or something!

Hmmmm, now that you ask it, that's a good question... let me think on it.

@lostinspice Okay, more posh - I want her to be intelligent and adventurous, but to surprise even herself with how brave and daring she becomes.

Thinking about all those It girls from the 90s. Tamara, Tara, Anouska, that sort of thing?

@lostinspice Too modern, more dated would be better, not that 30-40 is dated. :)

Well Tamara Beckwith is in her late 40s, Tara Tomkinson PAlmer was 45 when she died last year, and Anoushka Shankar was born in 1981 and Anouska Hempel was born in 1941!

Lots of Nicolas born in the 70s, it was the 70s version of Sharon!

@lostinspice So those would be easily recognizable names for a Brit? Oh yes, Nicola is a good one. So many great names to choose from :).

Well yes, they're posh birds names that were never out of the papers during that period (the 90s) :) Back when having a weird name was a posh person's thing rather than a council estate thing like it is now!

Thank you! @lostinspice
