Being born naked in front of a bunch of strangers. It made me cry. I never got over it!

Was chilling with my fellow shift manager when we both heard a gunshot. Some guy came into the store and robbed the pharmacist. Thankfully no one was hurt but we are all still dealing with some PTSD from that night.

December 21st, 2012. The day the world was supposed to end.
I was one of the few kids that went to school that day. The empty corridors were quite except for the playing of Christmas carols over the speakers.
It was eerie

@caPnAhab woah that's giving me the vibes i get from The Caretaker's Everywhere At The End Of Time. Check out that album if you've never heard of it. It's a project he did to emulate the experience of dementia/alzheimers in patients.
But i can remember for me nothing was different about that day. It moved on just like any other. I dont even think people talked about it much.

@astrosandorbits yeah, I've listened to that album. Not all the way through though

1. Watching the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis)
for the 1st time.
Picture a rainbow the width of the horizon rising into the sky, and beyond.
All the while, light races from earth vertically up its bands of color.
It's in a circle surrounding you.
I felt tiny and insignificant against the scale of the Universe. But blessed to be picked as a humble witness to such an event.
Surreal doesn't begin to approach the emotion.
I imagine it's what new astronauts feel on their 1st view of earth. My mind, nor my heart could hardly take in what was happening.
It was like staring into the vault of heaven.
2. Earning my wings as a pilot, my first flight alone was entirely under my discretion and authority. My judgement and planning. My life was solely in my hands.
Yet readying the aircraft, was like sojourns I'd done b4; prepping and rechecking for long distance bike trips back home.
The environment was new, but the meticulous process was not.
So I had a misplaced sense of over confidence and familiarity.
Only when I strapped in, did the significance of the event register. It was suddenly both very surreal, and its realities sobering.

@SethGreene531 ive always wondered what it is like for pilots to fly their first aircraft alone... placing their lives right in their hands. That's a very nice response to my question and i thoroughly enjoyed reading it. As for 9/11... someone else mentioned it too as their answer. I was young at the time. 6 to be exact. Therefore i dont remember much, but i do remembee the feeling that something terrible is happening. Being older it blows me away that America was attacked on our soil in such a way...

@astrosandorbits
I appreciate that, thank you! (Sorry I'd changed my response b4 you could go through it, but yeah...9/11...and 1st flights are in the surreal category 4 sure)
Flying-
some really get panicked/ nervous - understandably; some have mixed feelings; others are simply pumped. Depends largely on the personality, and your self confidence.
9/11 -
6 years old. Wow, you were old enough then to understand thatsomething significant, and very bad was going down. But perhaps spared the weight of loss and grief older folks went through.
Space Shuttle Challenger exploded when I was that age.
And same experience - we kids sensed something serious happened, but didn't fully grasp it.
- I saw the North WTC collapse on live TV. It was steady 1 minute, then its antenna did a little wiggle. The roof began to sink..in slow motion...but the antenna hung in mid air for a moment, then disappeared into a cloud of white dust. A 110 floor giant - gone.
That was unreal.

Cuddling in a bed with a foreigner who was exactly my type and whom I was crushing on from the very moment when I saw him for the first time. 😅
I thought these things only happen in daydreams and movies.

@CrazyMusicLover well i can testify I've actually done the exact same thing before and thought the exact same thing! As though it was something only of the dream world. Then it happens and you never forget the experience years later.

The real-time TV of the attack on the World Towers. What would have seemed over-the top unbelievable in fantasy fiction, happening in front of our eyes. A huge, abrupt tipping point
astrosandorbits · 26-30, M
@ffony i was 6 at the time and i can recall it was like living in a movie. There were no words to describe the feeling of an attack on our soil to that degree. I've seen footage on YouTube of it happening and it's deeply disturbing. I was too young at the time to really understand or be able to absorb the magnitude of what was really happening... i just knew something very bad was happening.

Reveal testing times for the world for sure … 😿@Samek
Samek · 36-40, M
@ThreeLittleBirds Very much so. Revealed a lot of cracks in the system and in society. :(
astrosandorbits · 26-30, M
@ThreeLittleBirds the pandemic was definitely an interesting time. I was in college at the time and ill never forget how it felt when the professor told us all we would not be resuming classes in class anymore... online only. At that time there was a lot of memery around covid and it almost didnt seem serious... then that happened and it was like an "oh shit" moment for me
There's been a few but parachuting and getting ready to pull the cord at 3000ft comes to mind in this moment

When I was selected as a Swedish astronaut for a moon mission and we landed on the moon, only to discover that Sweden was actually the first country to have ever landed on the moon.
