One that -

- Covers my needs,

- Is not crammed with so-called "apps", games and gimmicks of dubious need;

- Does not need µS-WIN-umpteen, IT Degree and Barbie's anorexic fingers to operate;

- Has simple voice telephony as primary function, with occasional, short texts secondary;

- Has one or two useful extras such as an alarm-clock and simple arithmetical calculator.*

- Does not need a mortgage to buy;

- Uses PAYG so no costly contract before you've so much as said, "Hello, it's me";

- Sufficiently light in battery use that a single charge lasts for some days, perhaps even a week (depending obviously on how much I use it);

- Can be switched OFF completely when simply not needed or should be OFF on anyway;

- Is sufficiently small and light to fit a jacket's inside pocket.**

*I do not expect trig., root and log. functions on a 'phone's calculator tool, but that on my 'phone lacks even a decimal point!

I use those occasionally, but not normally where I have only my portable telephone.

**Those who walk around with a large 'phone protruding from a back pocket are asking for trouble by loss, theft - or simply breakage by sitting on it!

Those who amble randomly along town streets while engrossed (probably needlessly) in intense tippy-tappy-scrollery risk not only accidents but also robbery. There are now many thefts including by robbery of "smart"-'phones for gangs who first extract all potentially-useful information such as banking details and private address-lists, then either re-sell the phones working or broken up for their valuable materials.
