I Got My Last Electric Bill A Few Days Ago & It Was $207, Haven’t Had A Bill This High Since 2011 When We Had A Record-Setting Heat Wave…

I got a letter the very next day from the electric company, was expecting it to be an apology but nope, just telling me that they raised the rates and that the average bill would only be a little more than $2. Bull crap, every time they say the averages my bill is at least 3 times more than that. And I don’t keep the house ice cold either.

It's really hot. I'm not from the states but I remember it reaching 116 F in the state that I live in at the moment. It was unbearable.

The airconditioners at work ended up not working too.

@Beatbox34 We had a record-breaking heat in 2011 and 2012 was not much better. Probably half the people I talked to (I was a greeter in a Walmart store) were telling me that their central a/c unit had broken down from running day & night. Some of them didn’t have the money to replace the units because they were having to pay such huge electric bills. They were buying small a/c units to put in a bedroom and maybe one in the living room to run until they could save up the money to replace the a/c unit. My a/c unit went out the next summer (2012) and had to be replaced. It was a bad time for everyone to have to replace the a/c. In the early part of 2011 we had a damaging storm that destroyed a lot of wooden fences around our homes, damaged roofs, and broke large tree branches. Even with insurance (which doesn’t pay for all the costs) it cost a lot of money to repair those things and the construction and landscaping businesses had work all that summer and fall and into the next year because of that storm. In 2012 we had one day it got up to 114 F. I was working in a used car lot and no a/c there, had to cook lunch for everyone on a gas burner in a metal building. They had a huge fan that blew in the main part of that building and I suggested water misters which we used all afternoon to help cool us off.

@cherokeepatti That is super hot. It must've been hard. Truth be told. This is why I prefer winters over summers. It gets me more sick.

I'm sorry you had to deal with all that.

@Beatbox34 same. I have a problem even now with heat where I can get heat exhaustion. I have passed out when standing in a garage with two women who were both older than me about 45 years ago and went blind one time while cooking when I had no a/c. I sweat my minerals out and didn’t know I needed to buy potassium and magnesium, got really weak in the summer and I was in my 20’s. I take minerals every day or my heart will flutter and drink dill pickle juice for the salt. I believe adrenal issues are the reason that I need more salt at my age. Doctors tell older people to use less salt but that is not good for me.

@cherokeepatti I am so sorry. The heat is actually much worse for the body and I know how it messes me up.

Have you tried salt with less sodium? My mother takes that since she can't take regular salt.

@Beatbox34 I take potassium every day but I need regular salt. That less salt stuff has potassium in it.
