I was asked a question

I don't expect an answer, but I have a friend older than me, who had a friend about my age die, found in a river dead. Her friend and her were talking about my age group, how many die from suicide or overdoses (no data to back up), and this for me came with how can I possibly answer this? I didn't like bringing up, there was a lot of angst in that time (90s teenager), counterculture, push back from establishment, and how that forms a narrative in life that can also lead into adult narration how they see live? Counterculture was large then. Drugs at that time were considered counterculture, often. But I still could not come up with answer to why they find, those in my age group struggle way...
