Chains On Fire

by: Rob Paquin

Every last thing that was true
Is gone from me and it’s gone from you
Now we lay here inside our own lies
Telling ourselves that we were right
But every small spark, sparked this fire
Illuminating the ashes of our desires

And as it all just burns away
I give up the ghosts and refuse to pray
Knowing that the hopes been lost
And that all that’s good comes at a cost
That what once was, has now been tossed
A fire started that cannot be quashed

Slip into the flame
Slide into the ashes
Burn the memories and accept the pain
As the world collapses

Every last thing that’s true is truth
Cannot steal away
The love that died within the fires
Of that Christmas Day

But every little feeling felt
Was sent along its way
Ashes on the winds of loss
Cast by the hands of fate

So, we slid upon the ashes
And we fell into the flames
Memories now give to us
This never ending pain
And as this world collapses
Imploding from the strain
Both hearts become defeated
Underneath the molten chains

I always stop to read your poetry when I see it. Your words, both beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time, speak volumes.
