When it comes to work, the key is tolerating people even if you sort of hate them. You don't have to want to get a beer with those people to work with them, even if it is awkward at first. If they aren't going to be happy for your success than they don't deserve your friendship, even if you have to be their colleague. Also congratulations! Maybe things will get better, sometimes people just need a little to get the feel for each other.

it doesn't sound like they were your friend in the first place , just acquaintances...true friends are very had to find and even those have jealousy issues when you get ahead. I have one person I thought was a good friend get pissed i bought a sports car... go figure

It doesn't change the person you are but it does change the work dynamic. It comes with the territory. So your choice is if you want to move backwards or forwards.
(I'd consider choosing the latter).

I often watch people that start from the bottom change when they reach the top. I can never be jealous or upset when others move up the ladder. I shouldn't expect others to be the same.
