Try a second opinion. Costco has a pretty good eye department. Explain life’s circumstances don’t allow for you to have surgery right now and would like a new prescription to buy some time. Don’t say you just don’t want it right now. Unfortunately, life is a game of semantics.

I too, need to be scheduled for cataract surgery, but first, I had to see the the dr who checks my retinas, then I have to see the dr who is going to remove some small cysts from under my bottom eyebrow. Then I can schedule my cataract surgery. At this rate, it will be late Dec or January before it's all done and over with and it's not anything that I am looking forward to.
Unless you are seeing overlapping images when you look at something in the distance, I'd say you could wait on the surgery. You did pass your drivers eye test, so your eyes can't be that bad.
I'd definitely would get a second opinion and do try an optometrist this time. I have found that the ones at Walmart vision center are not bad and less expensive too.

@ScarletWitch please be careful what you tell people. You cannot put just regular castor oil on your eyes. It has to be 100% organic, cold pressed castor oil in a glass container. I personally feel for cataracts it works way way better if you put it in your eyes and I've done that before it does not hurt the eyes. I thoroughly researched it before I did it years ago or I wouldn't have attempted it. People use that to get rid of cataracts.
@ScarletWitch it may be your diet that's messing you up honey. Give me a minute and I'll get all my information and get back with you. ❤🤗
@ScarletWitch You really need digestive enzymes, as they help break down your food while probiotics support the health of the gut microbiome. Their relationship can rightly be called complementary. Both can support your body in combating bloating, supporting digestion, and strengthening the immune system. Taking them together may maximize their impact. Take a good PREbiotic AND PRObiotic combination capsule.
I also take a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with powdered Stevia in it which tastes really good but I hate the liquid Stevia but the powdered Stevia is very good and that will help with your gut health. I take it first thing in the morning.
Foods that contain the most natural digestive enzymes include pineapples, papayas, mangoes, honey, bananas, avocados, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, kiwifruit and ginger. Adding any of these foods to your diet may help promote digestion and better gut health. Ginger is very important. I get my Ginger from holistic herbal solutions at www.holisherb.com GINGER ROOT CAPSULES 300 capsules at 550 mg per capsule. I take it with a meal. Also garlic is good for you but make sure you get the good garlic. I take Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract. Very important.
They are odorless, 300 capsules. 2 X a day with meal. www.kyolic.com
Don't eat greasy Foods. It's okay to cook with butter or olive oil. I'll be sending you more things to help but I find that the apple cider vinegar helps with gerds. But I cannot stress enough that you need your digestive enzymes are your gut will really get messed up. I found that out the hard way.

Maybe try an optometrist (OD) opposed to the ophthalmologist (MD).
An optometrist can not do surgery, they simply give out RX for glasses/contacts. I’m not sure, problem is, if they feel cataract is an issue they may then refer you back to an ophthalmologist. Not sure how it’d work. Worth a shot maybe?

@WaryWitchWandering you know I just thought of something else. People are so crooked these days. I could go to an optometrist but he might be in cahoots with a ophthalmologist to send business his way so he could get a monetary cut, and I still would be no better off. 😞

@LadyGrace I hope you can find a solution ❤️ best of luck
@WaryWitchWandering Thanks so much. 🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗

just go to a different doctor. You do have the right to refuse.
@DeluxedEdition yes but when I refuse they won't give me a regular prescription so I can go someplace else and get glasses and even when I offered to stay with him to get glasses they won't give me a prescription, that's the problem. I have a right to refuse yes but then they said they can't give me a prescription since I need cataract surgery because they would be liable if they gave me a prescription but I think that's a lie
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@LadyGrace I'm sorry you are dealing with this. But this is why I said go to another doctor. He most likely wants you to undergo surgery because that's more money for him than you getting glasses.
Go to another doctor. Path of least resistance.
HannahSky · F
Usually, unless you've waited to see the doctor, they're actually the ones waiting for the surgery, the doctor. They only do that surgery when they see that it's really time. They refer to it as, waiting til they're ripe, for the surgery. It's not uncommon that if you're cataracts have reached the point of surgery that there's no point in prescribing a new prescription, it won't help enough. Your vision is too impaired from the cataracts. You don't have to have the surgery, but they aren't going to be able to give you a new prescription either. It is a liability at this point, she's right to tell you this.
You're option would be to ask for a second opinion, continue as you are, or do the surgery.
Sorry it's been such a bad experience for you.

Something similar happened to me recently. I had to do what they said and not what I wanted. I guess they're liable. I told them I would sign something saying it's on me but they refused. It seems they have all the power maybe because they take the responsibility. But it's my body.
@Spoiledbrat Yes, it IS!! THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND THEY KNOW WHEN THEY HAVE YOU IN A CORNER. I could not be more angry and upset over this, being forced into something I don't want to do!!
i don’t have any legal advice but shop around for a BETTER doctor who will listen to you. it’s crazy that any doctor would push for a patient to have surgery, especially an eye doctor. you have the right to refuse any procedure and it’s terrible that they made you feel as though surgery was your only option
@crownedwithlaurel97 Well, I know it's not my only option and I'm not falling for that garbage. You have to take your health care into your own hands these days. I do know that castor oil gets rid of cataracts. I used to use that and then quit because I got lazy. That's what I'm going to start using again and it will dissolve my cataracts and it doesn't hurt your eyes either because I put it in my eyes. Then I'll have another eye exam after my eyes are healed and then get my glasses. There's a way around these bullies!

Get a second opinion - ESPECIALLY if any surgery is mentioned, and its still up to you to have any surgery or not. And no, he doesnt have to give you a prescription if he feels its not in your best interest. Thats another reason to get a second opinion.
Attorney? You planning on suing him for not giving you a prescription, especially if its his medical opinion that will be a waste of time and could do more harm to you? You will lose quickly and itll cost you money.
Save your money, get a second opinion. Its that easy.

@LadyGrace I kinda figured, as Ive read some of your other stuff and youre very level headed.
At any rate, he could be refusing fir two reason:
1) He believes it will do you no good, so its a waste of time.
2) He knows who probably will do the cataract surgery and is throwing them a bone, persey.
I think its #1 based off my personal experience.
Get a second opinion from someone that isnt an ass and will talk to you as a human being. I usually go with those people.

@Tiredish he was outright rude with me all along. I say he wanted to make some bucks off of me cuz I definitely need I'm not showing the signs of needing surgery. I know what I see, I don't care what he says and the only and I mean only problem I have is with reading I just need new bifocals. In any case, he has lost my business.

Get a second opinion.
If two different doctors agree, than you most likely need the surgery.

Get a different eye docter. Sounds like a pain. Best to just find someone else. Thats what i did. Turned out good.
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Try to get a second opinion if you can
@deadgerbil I don't think that would do any good because all these doctors want to do surgery. I called Walmart to see, since I have a copy of my records with all the results from my tests they gave which were many, and ask if the optometrist could make a prescription off of my records and they said no. And they also said at Walmart that even if the eye doctor gave me an exam, they would probably decide that I should have the surgery. This is not right!! I've seen people go in with eyes much much worse than mine and then have the surgery.

I'd be finding another doctor asap!! They have to ASK you first and then get insurance approval before setting up that crap! That is about 6 to 12 thousand dollars per eye...depending on where you live!!! Get out of his office asap!
@heavyone2 well they already billed my insurance for that visit and that's okay because it won't come out of my pocket, but yes, he is no longer my doctor. I know exactly what I'm going to do and I will get my glasses. I'm treating my cataracts and we'll get rid of those and then I'll get my glasses.
