My life is not even close to how I had planned it to be. I spent too many years trying to create the life that I had envisioned for myself. That was causing me such unhappiness. My life now is more guided by a quote from Joseph Campbell, "We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us". My life now, is far from perfect, but I'm happier now than I was before.

I'm not sure there's many people out there that have lives that they planned. In life sometimes you have to pivot and that's just a fact. It's okay to have to rebuild and find a new way in your 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. It's okay. There's no guidebook on how to do life "right" and that's okay. Just do your best to make the most of each day and appreciate every moment. Life is short and it goes faster the older we get.

I feel that way every day.
I didn't ask for my husband to die but that's the reality.

Something of sudden realization that I stumbled upon at a very young, pre-adolescent age, was what turned out to be the very clear fact that none of us actually plan our lives, nor do we plan our day to day activities.
We think we do, but thinking that we plan our life is akin to sitting on your Dad's lap behind the steering wheel of his car, thinking that you are actually steering his car down the road when you ask him if you can drive the car.
We all know now that Dad was really doing all the steering. What we never figured out was, that it still wasn't US driving our day-to-day lives down the road, even when we became adults.
Who then, is driving our life for us while we pretend to be the one behind the wheel steering our life down the road?
