If you suffered in life and you think everyone else should suffer because you turned out fine, perhaps you're not so fine.

I think most people don’t want others to suffer though, so much as they don’t want their own years of hard work to better their situations to be fed upon to such an extent they don’t get to reap the fruits of their own time/energy/commitment/resilience etc.
