I Am Not Where I Wanted to Be At This Age

I graduated at 17 and I thought that by now I'd be still in college with at least one job. I dropped out the first year for a few reasons and now I'm planning to join the military. I just see my life passing me by and I'm trying to do something about it, but I'm stuck for so many reasons. I'm such a loser.

You're still young and it's OK to feel not settled on what you want to do yet .

I have the same life story minus the military. Ive been in a military family and im positive i don't like it. And I feel the same way. Don't let that stop you though at least you're doing sone thing about it, it's better than doing nothing. I feel hopeless and paralyzed to be honest.

The military has some good education programs, including computer science and then you could go to school on the GI bill. Your life isn't over so don't give up quite yet.

Yeah, there's just nothing that I really want to study. I always wanted to be a flight attendant. There's no degree for that. You just apply, but a lot of airlines require the minimum age of 21. I'm about to turn 20. I find nothing interesting in college and life keeps passing me by. I can't find a job either (I have one but it's only on weekend nights at a Choliseum). I've been trying so hard to start by doing something simple, but everything requires something I don't have.

keep in mind what it means to join the military. are you ready to risk your life to fight a war you may not even believe in?

No, I've tried but he doesn't really care. I also have a friend who recently got hired as a flight attendant. But she has a a bachelor's degree in idk what and she worked for years as front desk manager in a very well known hotel near by. She pretty much has experience in the tourism industry. I haven't been able to talk to her because of her work schedules. But I'm hoping to talk with her about it.

@lostsoul, our local community college has a flight attendant prep course, it's a 2 year AA-type degree, I've heard it helps in getting hired. If you have a community college nearby you should check into it. I'll PM you the link to ours so you can see what it is all about.

There's an academy I was doing research on called "The Travel Academy" I'm not sure if that place is any good or not. I recieved some mail from them, but not enough for me to determine to enroll there. Plus, I'd need to save up to go there. My family won't support me.

Travel Academy appears to be a scam: http://www.indeed.com/forum/job/flight-attendant/Travel-Academy-Minnesota/t146710

They suggest customer service jobs rather than a certificate. I would go with what other actual flight attendants say over what I've heard. Could your uncle put you in touch with any recently hired F/As who could give you some advice on how you should prepare?

I think since you're under the hiring age now anyways, doing that now would show real interest in the career, vs. someone just looking for "a job". But I think a purely online course might not be very good. Seems like a lot of the communications classes at least would be better in person.

You're not a loser. You're 20 and trying to decide on a career direction. It's not an easy task.

Thank you @scrimshaw, I've seen courses online, but I have an uncle in jet blue who told me it was unnecessary, I still think it would be helpful to get hands on training.

Well, I wish you the best of luck! n I hope you find what you're looking for. <<<333 You have plenty of options n all the time in the world. Don't let yourself get discouraged.
Cosreal · 36-40
well..... <.< you're still very young. you could always go back to college n not join the military.

You're young, you're supposed to feel like life is passing you by. That's how you get motivated to do stuff.
LostSoul17 · 26-30, F
It seems like I don't do anything. Because I keep trying and it all results in nothing.
LostSoul17 · 26-30, F
Thank you, lasergraph, that's what I've been thinking of doing.
LostSoul17 · 26-30, F
There are a lot of things I still have to think about, but in the end, the military is one of my only options and I know I can make it but I want to know my options before I (probably or not) regret the biggest decision of my life. My family supports me in some ways, but it's getting tiring for them and I get it because I'm really getting tired of my shit, too.
