I Don’t Want the Lesson
I don’t want to turn this into a lesson.
I don’t want to be grateful for the end.
I don’t want to talk about growth or closure or what I’m supposed to learn from losing you.
I just miss you.
I miss the shape of you in my days.
All the things I would have told you.
The things I still instinctively reach for you to share.
The private language we built over years.
The ease of knowing you.
The beauty of you knowing me.
I miss who I was with you.
And I hate that love doesn’t always get a vote in whether something stays.
I know there are reasons.
I know there are walls.
I know there are things I cannot change simply because I want them to be different.
But none of that makes my heart understand.
My heart is still standing in the doorway, looking back.
Still wanting one more conversation.
One more laugh.
One more ordinary day when you are simply there.
Maybe someday I’ll be able to hold what we were without reaching for what we can’t be.
But not today.
Today, I don’t want the lesson.
I just want you.

One more ordinary day when you are simply there.
Maybe someday I’ll be able to hold what we were without reaching for what we can’t be.
But not today.
Today, I don’t want the lesson.
I just want you.
