I Have a Confession

I need help but I'm too depressed to do anything
secretly hoping my GP will send me to a psychiatrist so I wouldn't have to explain why I am the way I am

Don't secretly hope for it. There's nothing wrong with admitting you need help and asking for it. No one is a mind reader. Please, tell him you're depressed and you want him to help you find a good therapist.

@SW-User It's not that simple. I know it for sure because I was seeing a therapist and there's still a horrible stigma... and I just don't want them to give me something to shush me down, just because that's what the books say and they can't understand.

@Melpomene Are you in a country where doctors don't view therapy as helpful?
Melpomene · 26-30, F
@SW-User I don't know how they view therapy but almost everyone thinks that going to a psychiatrist and/or taking meds means you're crazy. There are plenty of mentally ill people avoiding therapies because of that...
Yeah, there's is nothing wrong with admitting you need help but people see you differently if they find out. And it does affect their decisions about you.

@Melpomene Are you positive it's not just your view and those of your family & friends?

Personally, I don't give a crap what someone else's opinion is. When I need help, I ask for it. I'm sorry you feel uncomfortable doing that.

@SW-User Yes, I'm positive. People don't get jobs even though they are the best candidate if the employer finds out they had been going through some sort of therapy and even though they are healthy, normal people now. We're marked as lunatics.

@Melpomene I'm sorry it comes with such a terrible stigma where you live.
