1968 it was still illegal to have abortions in the US.

I Watched a movie based on a secret (and back then illegal) abortion operation made by volunteering women in US.

An upper class housewife needed to do a medical abortion cause of a medical condition putting her life at risk for being pregnant. The medical board men voted for or against as they had the last saying. They hadn't allowed an abortion in ten years and they weren't gonna this time either.

The housewife had 50% chance to survive having the baby. A risk she wasn't willing to take a she had a happy loving family. So she looks for a way to do an abortion illegally as that was the last option for anyone in her situation.

I have never lived where or when it's been illegal to have an abortion, call me privileged for living in modern times, which makes me so dissapointed when some people still want abortion to be a crime.

The movie is called "Call Jane"

This upsets me like you personally could not believe to an extent I doubt you personally couldn't even begin to "get". I am an adoptee, my natural mother did literally everything possible in order to get me aborted, I can not begin to tell you how much I wish she had succeed

Babies, children, people ALL need to be wanted and loved, for far too many of us that just has never been our personal reality.

It's all very well of those of you who were at the very least tolerated as a kids to talk about what should or should not be, but I for one wish my mother had been allowed to abort me, it would have been better for both of us had she succeeded!!!

@AntisocialTroll It was never my intention. I'm sorry if I hurt you. I don't need to block you but I can if you prefer it

Abortion is never an issue for the rich. They can just fly to somewhere like the Netherlands or Israël for the procedure.

Abortion, like access to healthcare in the US, is a class issue. Most politicians do not consider access to either healthcare or food a human right.

@Crazywaterspring Good point! Those who need it the most and are out of options are those who don't have the rights.
True. My parents tended to gloss over that part - I was unplanned and my father had to divorce his wife and marry my mother because of the laws preventing abortion at that time. Poor them.

@Roundandroundwego Maybe but that means you're here for a reason.

@LeopoldBloom My God, you are arrogant. I'm not sure who you think you are. I didn't realize that you, your parents and grandparents were slaves in the south. You actually think that you know more about her experience than she does. I'm certain that slave experience was different. I don't believe that you have any right to say that you personally know more about slavery. Her complaint is that the word " slavery " is used by people crying about every " pussy " excuse for every rule and law that they don't like. There is nothing about about abortion laws that have anything to do with slavery. There are no forced breeding camps for women that I know of. Unless it is rape, it is voluntary for a man and a woman to engage in the only activity where pregnancy is always possible. No forced slavery here.

I'm not saying that there aren't some PP who offer free birth control and other free medical services. Our group has never found one. We have found a few who offer it based on income but not free. We have not found one who offers mammograms. And yes they target minority neighborhoods knowing lack of financial resources will bring more abortion business. No matter how poor a woman is, they have to find the money for an abortion and somehow they do. PP still won't offer free abortion.

If all PP's would stop doing abortions I would support federal funding 100℅ to ensure that every woman had access to BC and medical services but I will never support the Hyde Amendment.

It is so simple. To end the life of an innocent human being is murder. Those who commit abortions should be charged as murderers. That is something we are actively fighting for. It will take some time, but it's coming. Abortion and those who do abortions is also voluntary. No force is used
