Tragic and horrifying.
My husband is Jewish and grew up in Israel, but we both think that Israel's behaviour has been in error from the very beginning, because it has not respected the original boundaries and terms worked out with Britain when it first became a nation state.
It makes no sense to have Palestine divided into two separate land areas, and the west bank with no access to a sea port.
Both sides have committed atrocities.
The main problem lies in how the original terms of Israel's democracy were constituted. It gives a gerrymander of disproportionate power to the conservative Zionists. If there were equality in the voting, Israel would find peace solutions with its neighbours quickly and relatively easily.
