@Fernie: it was great fun, but within a couple years it became not so fun, i remember seeing greyline tours of the haight, tourists taking pics of the freaky hippies, and very young run aways arriving with no money, food or street knowledge

@mrmoose: Yes, I heard many similar stories through the years from people who made it to the West Coast...still...it was an awakening like no other

@Fernie: indeed, i was there 1964 to 1970, best time of my life, i was a 16 yo runaway, grew up about 50 miles south of the city

@Fernie Yes, we were young when we got there. We thought Hollywood would be paved in gold but it was dirty and awful?!😞There were hookers, drug addicts and worse! My brother turned to drugs to numb out the loneliness he felt in the big city and it killed him.💉😵I truly feel if we had never left the country he'd still be alive today.😭
