schools from other countries have such strict dress codes

Meanwhile I just walked to school in my pajamas and a bath robe

When I went to school I wasn't even allowed jewellery make up or earrings other than studs and uniform policy was strict

still got these rules today... no jewelry or makeup
Sharon · F
@Marceline: Petty rules give teachers something else to be stupid about about. They need something to amuse their little minds.
Marceline · F
@Sharon: the exact dress rules are 3 pages of text... regulating every little bit from hair arrangement to coloring your toes
Sharon · F
@Marceline: That doesn't surprise me at all. Are they sexist too, with different rules for boys? Some I've seen only allow girls to wear white socks for example.

If schools put as much effort into basic education as they do making and enforcing stupid rules, we'd have the best education system in the world.

@Sharon: well you have to wear skirts as a girl... but thats actually an advantage
Sharon · F
@Marceline: Presumably boys have to wear trousers. What country are you in? Most UK schools allow girls (but not boys) a choice now.
Marceline · F
@Sharon: australia... and most times its so warm you dont want pants
Sharon · F
@Marceline: I've heard Australian schools can be very strict. Are boys allowed to wear shorts?
Marceline · F
@Sharon: no only long pants
Sharon · F
@Marceline: That's a stupid rule to have is a hot climate. Par for the course I suppose.
Marceline · F
@Sharon: on principal i am fine with school uniforms.. but they should be revisioned for sanity
Sharon · F
@Marceline: The biggest problem with school uniforms in the UK is that they have to be bought from the schools' "official suppliers". Those suppliers have to pay large bribes to the schools to be so appointed. To recoup that money, school uniforms are grossly overpriced. We often hear of impoverished parents having to choose between buying the uniform or eating!

A second problem is that schools are really petty about enforcing uniform rules. I recently heard about a case where the school sent children home or put them in isolation becaiuse their uniforms were wrong - even though the had been bought from the official suppliers. It seems the school decided to change the rules without telling anyone.
