People are apathetic about others and themselves and they don't possess the common sense that a smart person would have to have a intelligent discussion on any given issue. Due to the fact that we have a Society who desperately wants to believe that they're entitled and owed a living yet don't have the capacity to produce, they have to say something that will make what they say or who they are relevant. You can't argue common sense or reasonable critical thinking. Moreover, when a person has no argument to counter reasonable inference, this is the best they have to offer instead of thinking about the actual issue you've brought to bear...

This is probably an indirect cause of a lack of sex ed in schools, as people get knocked up earlier due to not knowing the risks and younger parents tend to "care" less about their kids, as they have yet to live their own life first.
