My Daughter Talked Someone out of Suicide

This happened during school hours in class. One of my daughter's school friends was absent from school on Friday, but returned yesterday. She was unusually quiet.

Just before first period started my daughter noticed something in the corner of her eye and when she turned to look directly at what she was seeing, she realised the friend was holding a piece of broken glass to her wrist under her desk.

She quickly moved to stand in front of her and say "Don't do it!" This surprised the girl who looked up at my daughter in shock and before she could recover my daughter grabbed the glass from her hand. The friend then looked around to see if anyone else noticed, but no one did as they were in their own conversations.

My daughter then told her they will have a talk during first break and moved to sit in the seat next to the friend just to keep an eye on her.

During break time it was revealed that the friend's mother just up and left on Thursday. All she said was that she would be back soon, but was never seen since then. The friend called to her mom's phone on Friday and she answered, but when she called again the Saturday, some other guy answered the phone.

She went into further detail about how her mom and dad always had arguments and things sometimes got physical when her dad got drunk.

My daughter said she will continue to try to offer support, but if things escalate then I may have to intervene.

Can feel how elevated you'd have felt. Pray she is able to help bring her friend back to normalcy and I concord with what nedkelly has suggested.
