I wish there was a way my dog could tell me if he wants a dog buddy...

He is a very sweet boy but very needy.

I call him my anxiety dog because he has anxiety so bad I'm constantly cuddling him. He is very attached to me so I'm worried if I get him a dog buddy he'll be really jealous. He's very clingy and always wants pets. Always lol

But because he's so attached, when I leave he is very clearly sad. He doesn't like being alone or left out.

I usually never leave him longer than 3-4 hours a day but he still mopes when I go.

He's getting older so I don't want to get a puppy that'll drive him insane. But maybe another older little dog like him. Or maybe a kitty.

Look for input my friends 🖤

Should I adopt him a dog or kitty buddy, or will he feel worse because he has to share attention?

I wish I could ask him.

How does he react to other humans?
@BlueVeins he looooves people. He gives hugs and kisses

@EldritchFox Kinda makes me think he's just very attention hungry and would like another dog. IDK though, I'm not a dog guy.

Maybe see if you can find a rescue dog at a shelter that’s quiet and calm, that way he has company but nothing overwhelming.

@Revanchist Good idea, another older dog that won't compete much for attention.
@Revanchist I'm definitely thinking another older dog would be best

Is there a way you can bring him around another to see how he reacts?
@MellyMel22 maybe the shelter would let him meet a potential buddy first...

@EldritchFox That would be a great idea to try!

I don't know your dog or what he is feeling/thinking. Personally I've always had very happy dogs. I believe that is because I've always had many dogs in the house. I believe they like a pack environment.

Perhaps another dog might keep him company and not have the same seperation anxiety over time?

Even if some of my dogs don't always interact with each other, I find they enjoy have others around. Sometimes when I come home I find two dogs that usually don't interact much sleeping together.
@JimboSaturn yeah they do like a pack. He really hates being alone.
