Yesterday i literally noticed such a huge contrast in the city. Do you relate to it too?
So as you all know I visit Central areas of our city Bangalore in India like UB City mall, Lavelle Road, Church Street etc which are the cosmopolitan areas of the city and socialize too. But yesterday as I was walking across Lavelle Road, St Marks Road and Residency Road but was feeling kinda weak and tired so skipped Church Street and the metro which is overcrowded and took a bus as there was a direct bus to my home area in Marathahalli which is in East Bangalore. I talked with some Expat women yesterday briefly too like this French woman who looked mixed race and a Swedish woman too briefly in St Marks Road and Lavelle road but boarded the bus. One thing I noticed is despite the Central areas being more posh, the BMTC buses were mostly non-AC and diesel buses whereas the AC Volvo and EV buses were slightly lesser compared to in East Bangalore probably as Eastern part of city is full of Tech parks.
Finally found an EV one and entered the bus tho and it felt crazy. Usually i travel by cab or metro in these areas but it was my first in BMTC there. Suddenly I heard some man sitting front of me playing reels loudly which were playing Bhojpuri songs. They were likely migrants from Bihar state of India. So Bhojpuri is a language often a dialect of Hindi spoken in Western Bihar and Eastern UP of India. These songs are popular all over Bihar. So as a lot of Biharis come to different parts of India, these songs are heard all around. Like even a Bihari neighbor of us plays these Bhojpuri songs very loud. It's not just in Bangalore but in my hometown Siliguri in West Bengal too and even in my aunt's hometown Coochbehar where near her house and bus stop in 2024 I heard these Bhojpuri songs everywhere and it felt as if I was in a Bihar town instead of a Bengali town/small city. Honestly these songs are heavily autotuned and they sound really rustic to me.
But it felt surreal to hear such songs in the bus yesterday while traveling from Central Bangalore as the areas are so posh like full of glass facade offices, 5 star hotels, upscale Cafes, UB City mall building which is a luxury mall and a cosmopolitan and international crowd. It felt crazy how I went from talking French and Swedish women and waving at some foreign men to suddenly sitting in a bus hearing someone play rustic sounding Bhojpuri songs in reels. Idk why I didn't expect to hear it in the bus at all. It just felt crazy to me for some reason there compared to around my home in East Bangalore or even in my hometown Siliguri. What do you feel? Do you relate to something similar?
