God’s Answer Isn’t “Try Harder.” It’s “Come To Me.”

There are times when life leaves us feeling tired, discouraged, overwhelmed, and completely inadequate. We may look at our circumstances, our failures, our weaknesses, or even our walk with God and think, “I just need to try harder.”

But God’s answer is not always, “Try harder.”

His answer is simply, “Come to Me.”

Jesus said:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Notice what Jesus did not say.

He did not say, “Come to Me when you have everything together.”

He did not say, “Come to Me after you have tried hard enough.”

He did not say, “Come to Me when you have conquered your weaknesses.”

He said, “Come unto me.”

That is grace.

We often think we have to make ourselves strong enough, good enough, disciplined enough, or worthy enough before we can come before God. But Jesus invites us to come exactly as we are, when we are weary and burdened.

When we cannot carry the load, He tells us to bring it to Him.

When we do not know what to do, He tells us to come.

When we have fallen, He tells us to come.

When our hearts are hurting, He tells us to come.

When we have exhausted our own strength, He reminds us that His strength is sufficient.

Life was never meant to be lived by human strength alone. Scripture says:

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

Our weakness does not frighten God away. It is often in our weakness that we discover just how much we need Him.

There is a difference between giving up and giving it to God.

Giving up says, “I cannot do this.”

Faith says, “I cannot do this on my own, but God can help me.”

Maybe today you have been telling yourself that you need to try harder.

Try harder to be strong.
Try harder to have faith.
Try harder to fix everything.
Try harder to get your life back under control.

But the Lord is gently reminding you:

“Come to Me.”

Come before you have all the answers.

Come before you have everything figured out.

Come with your tears.
Come with your questions.
Come with your weakness.
Come with your burdens.

Come just as you are.

And when we come to Him, we find something our own striving could never give us:

Rest.
