Airports ... my title is NOT too freakin' short!!!

As I sit in yet another airport awaiting the opening of a boarding door, I cannot help but wonder how much time I've spent waiting on planes over the last (almost) ten years of traveling around this globe we call home.

Whether it be a commercial seat on American Airlines or British Always or Swiss (who apparently assumes everyone knows they are an airline) or Lufthansa or any of the other commercial airline; or a military transport seat on a C-17 or C-130 or C-2 or some other aircraft ... I've spent many hours waiting to board an aircraft over the last ten years. Many, many hours.

Right now I'm waiting on a return flight home to Boston Logan airport. As usual, this was a work trip. Just a quick two days of meetings with my (relatively) new employer.

It's a bit strange no longer being associated with the military. There are so many "side" benefits to that little ID card I no longer carry. But that's okay, my career is heading in the direction I laid out so many years ago. I am on course. I am married and coming up on our first anniversary. I am (I think) respected professionally in my field.

Sorry... Just using this down time to take a personal inventory. Do you do that periodically? Take a look at your life plan? Make adjustments? Assess progress?

Beautiful, and yes, I do. I’m writing this from Florence at the moment after a week in Paris and many hours waiting to board flights domestically and internationally in my 55 years of flying around this globe.

You have made your way in your life. You’re smart, driven, and you accomplish what you set your mind to; that’s respectable. Taking those moments to pause, to reset, to take stock of where you are, where you’ve been, and where you want to go are great steps to living a life you love.

@ChampagneOnIce Florence!? Very nice! I've never been. I've been to Paris, but never to Florence. In Italy I've really only visited Venice and Verona and only got to see them because I had some time at Aviano.

But, yes, it is important to stop and take stock from time to time. 🙂

@sarabee1995 Go down to the VA and get the easiest of military IDs at least. Had to use it just to get on a base for a VA job fair.

The number of hours spent waiting for planes...

I am not going to say wasted or lost time because I am sure you will refute that.

But it wouldn't be in the category of your most productive.

Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time

@KiwiBird I believe the actual number of hours to be incalculable at this point.

And, I think you'd be surprised at how productive I can be sitting in a chair with my face in my laptop ignoring the world around me while simultaneously maintaining situational awareness.

@sarabee1995 I still wouldn't say...your most productive time. Situational awareness alone would take the edge off that....and people watching. However I am fully aware you would use the time wisely.
