Haha you all won't believe I tried to joke today and it failed for real. What do you feel about it?
So in this bookstore in Church Street area of our city Bangalore in India, I initiated conversation with 2 expat women from the US. Yeah they are from Colorado and we had a very bubbly interactions for real. They were older mostly in their 40s and I am 25. We had an engaging interaction but when I asked their names, one of their name is Amanda. So I jokingly asked them "Ohh so are you actually Michael's wife Amanda from GTA 5?" and giggled. But it failed as they both suddenly asked "Ohh what's that?" Then I explained that it's a videogame and that it's Grand Theft Auto. Then they laughed and said that they don't really play videogames so they didn't know. Yeah Idk why I expected them to know GTA 5 maybe because it's a very popular game set in the US so I thought GTA 5 is universally known to everyone especially most Americans but I know it was a wrong assumption but yeah eventually we wished each other a great day and parted our ways.
Then in Church Street itself, I initiated with an even older American woman mostly in her 50s and she is a professor in Azim Premji University in our city Bangalore. Yeah we talked and at first she asked whether I am one of her students. But I said no and that I just recently completed MBA and just trying to socialize with new people. Then she was like that's great. Then we talked. She said she teaches journalism for Undergraduate students. It's funny how she thought I was one of her students even though I am a 25 year old man and not 18-20. Anyways this interaction made me proud as I talked with an older University professor like an equal adult whereas during MBA, professors seemed so intimidating due to power dynamics as they were teaching me, grading me etc but today we just talked as 2 independent adults.
Other than that I had a 2nd bump-in with the same black German woman in another Cafe of Indiranagar area of our city with whom I talked in Araku Cafe exactly last Saturday. Yeah I posted about her last time and was surprised seeing how diverse Germany can be and that there are black people there too. Today she was with her white female friend and we all talked in the Cafe. She remembered me immediately that we talked in Araku last week. It was a much more bubbly interactions. I had a 2nd bump-in with this another white German woman too in Church Street who is around my age with whom I talked last Saturday too in St Marks road of our city. She recognized me too and asked me how am I doing. We both happened to be exploring Church Street today. But yeah she was on a temporary work assignment so she will be leaving to Germany after a week as her assignment will end.
