Jasmine Taylor was only 23 years old and simply doing her job when authorities say a complete stranger decided she would never make it home.
On February 5, 2025, Jasmine was delivering packages along a rural road in Lawrence County, Missouri.
According to investigators, 65-year-old Thomas Coy saw her Amazon truck traveling down the road. Instead of letting her pass, Sheriff Chris Berry said Coy returned to his home, retrieved a pellet rifle and waited for Jasmine’s truck to come back.
When she returned, he shot her in the head.
Amazon video reportedly captured Jasmine slumped behind the wheel as her delivery truck continued moving before crashing into a fence.
But what authorities say happened next is even more disturbing.
Coy admitted that he removed the severely injured young woman from the truck, dragged her along the road and abandoned her in a ditch while she was still breathing.
Authorities initially did not realize Jasmine had been shot. She was transported to Mercy Hospital Joplin, where doctors later discovered a projectile lodged in her head.
Jasmine fought for her life for four days before dying on February 9, 2025.
Investigators said Jasmine and Coy did not know each other. Neighbors reportedly told local media that Coy had complained about delivery vehicles speeding along the county road, but authorities have not publicly confirmed the exact motive behind the killing.
Coy was originally arrested on an assault charge, which was later upgraded to first-degree murder after Jasmine died.
Now, more than a year after her death, Coy has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is scheduled to be sentenced on November 2.
Jasmine was 23 years old. She was not confronting anyone. She was not trespassing inside someone’s home. She was delivering packages when a stranger allegedly armed himself, waited for her to return and took her life.
