Today I had a very weird day when it comes to going for a job interview. Do you agree too it was different?
So today I had an interview in this company Echobooom in Indiranagar area of our city Bangalore in India for a Business Associate role as a 25 year old man who has been searching for a job as someone who completed his MBA 10 months ago. So yesterday we had a Zoom meeting round where me and the other candidates were there and they asked us to tell about ourselves and asked some questions related to AI. So today was different. So we reached the office in Indiranagar area and immediately had to give a test round on Google Forms. Then after that was done, we were told to go to another room and was told to give another round on Google Forms instead. Then after that was done, suddenly the head of the Bangalore branch gave us an orientation where he showed some PowerPoint slides about the company and that it has branches in 6 Indian cities- Mumbai(the main branch/headquarters), Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata and Guwahati and talked about entrepreneurship and leadership. It was unexpected as usually orientations happen after we are selected for the job already and not on an interview day. But then the most shocking happened. Then he assigned each of us candidates a partner who was one of their employees to go on a field sales trip in the city so they can evaluate how we performed. That was unexpected because we weren't even employees yet and not even selected yet and already we had to do the field works that day. So I was assigned with this guy who happened to be a Bengali guy too just like me. He is a peer aged person too around 23-26 age range.
Then he booked an autorickshaw till Richmond area of our city Bangalore. But then he suddenly took me to the area Sudhama Nagar which is the area full of wholesale shops, narrow roads and its close to Lalbagh Botanical Garden. So we were walking around shop to shop and pitching to the shopkeepers about the company's AI product to them. Yeah we went to wholesale clothes shops, a very old and rusty machinery shop, another old and rusty Diesel shop and a warehouse too. We were walking almost non-stop and entering different shops and doing the same sales pitch to the owner of them. But whats terrible is we did these in empty stomachs. Idk why he wasn't wanting to eat anything. We just had a mango milkshake and he was smoking cigarette and again kept on moving store to store in those rusty streets of Sudhama Nagar. I only had egg maggi in the morning and nothing and no water also as the company people said us candidates to keep our bags in the office itself while going out with them for the field work. I was confused tho why I was having to do these already before the interview and selection itself. But yeah it started around 12 pm and continued until 4 PM. Finally he booked an autorickshaw back to the office in Indiranagar but the traffic especially in Residency Road area was too much. While on the auto I had to fill yet another Google Form for final evaluation which felt annoying as I was very tired. We finally reached office at 5 PM and had the final interview round. Anyways I am surprised still that this happened because usually most companies only take the interviews and ask about skills but here we already had orientation and full field work going to shops doing sales pitching while on empty stomach.
