The fact that one of my best friends gets annoyed with me for not having Facebook or a smartphone is one of the proofs that people have replaced the real world with the virtual world.
I can't even get him to share with me the photos of our night out without him making a big fuss of it, complaining I don't have Facebook and how cumbersome that is for him, so that he has to share the material with me through other means.
Has he ever heard of putting the damn photos on a USB stick and handing it off to me manually over a nice lunch break somewhere? People have lost track of the simple things in life.
Another instance I experienced this is during my college education. People would refuse to contact me if I didn't have Facebook. People would make appointments using digital means instead of trust and simple memory.
In our lectures of sociology, students proudly proclaimed that they couldn't navigate their way home without a GPS. Hello, using the stars, anyone? What a bunch of ignorant oafs. It's embarrassing.
People have replaced the real with the virtual.
Here's a little video that shows exactly that:

Pay close attention to what the girl is saying. That realization breaks my heart every time.

@Happyes: Oh Lordy.. that part about turning everything into clichés and banalities I especially hate, particularly memes. People might as well be robots if I wanted to see 'entertaining taglines' all the time. People don't show their real personalities anymore.. and if they have one, it's devoid of character.

@Existentior: Yes that's a really ugly but true truth, they all hide behind something, what's the point of living anymore..

@Happyes: They point of living is to procreate. Well, it's certainly one of the points of living. We need to pluck our own fruits in life.

We kind of did since people will use their phones for everything. Some have replaced reality, many also haven't, I think
