Farm Days and First Crushes
Describe a bit about your childhood.
I grew up in an era where grunge was on its way out and nu-metal, punk, and emo were getting big. I lived on a farm, making toys out of sticks and digging holes, as well as falling off hay bales I was told not to climb on and being chased by the mean chicken every time I got off the bus. There was T-ball, basketball, and wrestling after school, depending on the season, and Pokémon cards were all the rage when I had just turned 10. Saturday morning cartoons were the best, and so was going outside with a few buddies to ride bikes and run around all over the place unsupervised.
Game systems weren’t like they are today, but there were tons of laughs playing Mario Kart or Smash Brothers, eating pizza all weekend long with not a vegetable in sight. By the time Xbox came out, there was Halo, which was iconic and led to LAN parties. In the summer, my dad took my brother and me from state to state, seeing the sights, or sometimes we would spend a few weeks camping in tents. We ran around catching frogs, snakes, turtles, and anything we could get. We told ghost stories and played flashlight tag with all the other kids who were camping in the area. We had our first crushes and promises to meet up again next year, though we never saw the same kids twice.
I remember laser tag with Breaking Benjamin in the background. We all had our skater shoes, though no one could even do a kickflip. And believe it or not, I had the gelled, spiky hair everyone wanted to touch. This is just a little bit of what being a kid was like for me.
