Just bumped into this song for the first time today but this song is already hitting me differently. Do you like this song too?
So this song is Runaway by Edward Maya(Romanian singer/DJ) and it was supposedly a bonus track for the summer of 2015. However, I only heard this song for the first time today. I love how the music video is just a still video of a beautiful beach with waves flowing and the palm tree moving which is making me wanna visit a beach for real and the song has that signature Edward Maya vibes especially when the synth plays after singing parts. But I have often posted how many songs by Edward Maya and even other Romanian artists like Akcent makes me feel regret and FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) due to my prolonged shyness near girls, general trust issues with others and low self-esteem due to facing so much bullying in my school here in Munnekolala area of our city Bangalore in India.
I know I keep posting about this topic but as I heard the song, I want to release my emotions too by sharing about how I am feeling hearing this song and what triggered my emotions after hearing it. So the song felt amazing to hear and so was the music video which is beautiful but I noticed that it was released in April 2015 and that was during my summer vacations after I freshly completed 9th grade and was about to enter 10th grade soon enough. That was one if not the worst phase of my school life because 9th grade was when the bullying became severe and a daily thing.
Like my main bully Arjun daily insulting me harshly, trying to exclude me, making me perform embarrassing tasks in front of others almost every lunch breaks and asking humiliating questions and obviously hitting me and other boys too would surround me seeing it and laugh and some even joining in and the topper of the class Sai Prasad often belittling me and trying to convince others that I was a loser or dumb and if I ever fought back anyone, he would threaten me that he would screw me and he was normal to everyone else and only mean to me while being respected by other peers and teacher's favorite.
In class I used to fully sit in one place stationary and not move around not even to washroom as idk who would occupy my seat and not let me in and that made me an easy target for someone like Arjun. So by the time early 2015 came and finally 9th grade was over, that summer vacation didn't feel normal as I was dreading about school starting again and facing those same bullies for another year in 10th grade. So yeah this song was released around that time and its making me sad how I didn't have the carefree vacations or life of a 14–15-year-old at the time.
I was always frozen in class in one seat. 0 female interactions, no friends in class and just regular bullying. This song mirrors the carefree youth feeling like joking with peers, talking to girls, getting crushes, fun hangouts, happy memories, shared stress about board exams (again very important exams in India). I was completely robbed off that especially by Arjun and he was one of the reason behind my years of low self-esteem, isolation and social anxiety.
So yeah I was hearing the song but seeing the date of upload/release date in 2015 triggered the memories of those teenage years which was supposed to be fun, safe and carefree but it wasn't for me especially given how many Edward Maya songs make me emotional about this aspect of my life, the isolation, the general lack of fun with peers, general lack of female interactions throughout my teenage years and a bit of early 20s too etc. Now at 25, I am much more confident and different but I will never get back to being 14 or 15 again and changing things and making it better. So here is the song so you can hear it better
